Dpgs chasing or not coming back when called can be a big problem, and one experienced by many dog owners at one time or another.
The Solution
Teach "Come!" or "Here!" It is important that your dog is taught a recall command such as "Come!" or "Here!". This then needs to be practised regularly in environments which become more and more distracting.
Reward with treats Rewarding with treats when your dog does come back is a great way to make him realise that coming back is good.
Make life fun Toys are also a good way of getting them to want to be around you.
Clicker training Clicker training is yet another way of teaching your dog to come on command.
Break the pattern When walking your dog, practise calling him at different points so that he will learn to come back regardless of location or time.
Don't punish! It is vital that you don't punish your dog when he returns because he will be less inclined to come back the next time.
Use distraction Remote spray training collars can be a very successful way of resolving more serious recall problems, in particular when sheep or other animals are involved.
